What is a Heat Shrink Marker?
A heat shrink marker, typically made from polyolefin, is a sleeve designed for labeling wires and cables. It shrinks tightly around the item when heated, providing a permanent, legible label resistant to environmental stresses, ensuring dependable identification.
Types of Heat Shrink Markers
Our wire markers are specifically designed for distinct applications:
- Commercial Grade Heat Shrink Markers: TE RPS Wire Markers are suited for both industrial and commercial use, with an operating temperature range from -30°C to 105°C (-22°F to 221°F) and a 3:1 shrink ratio. These markers are resilient against harsh environmental conditions, ideal for electrical panels, wire assemblies, and communication systems.
- Military Grade Heat Shrink Markers: Includes the TMS-SCE series from T.E. Connectivity and the ETM Wire Marker series from expressMARK, tailored for sectors requiring high durability, such as Aerospace, Military, and Motor Sports. With an operating temperature range from -55°C to 135°C (-67°F to 275°F), they comply with rigorous standards like SAE-AMS-DTL-23053/5 and SAE AS5942.
- Zero Halogen Heat Shrink Markers: Featuring the HX-SCE from T.E. Connectivity and the ETZ Wire Markers from expressMARK, with nylon carrier like the HX-SCE or paper carrier, these are selected for fire safety critical applications, including automotive use. Producing minimal smoke and no toxic fumes, they are preferred for Mass Transit, Marine, and Industrial projects.
- Continuous Heat Shrink Tubing: Including the popular TE TTMS Mil Spec Tubing, this Military Grade shrink tubing is designed for wire and cable identification, offering a versatile size range from 2.4mm to 50.8mm unshrunk diameter. With an operating temperature range of -55ºC to +135ºC (-67ºF to +275ºF) and a 3:1 shrink ratio, it's ideal for military, rail, and industrial standards. The tubing is supplied in a continuous format for easy printing and kitting, making it perfect for applications requiring printable heat shrink tubing and durable shrink tube solutions.
Our own expressMARK ETM (Mil-Spec), ETZ (Zero Halogen) and ETG (General Purpose) Continuous Heat Shrink is available as well.
How do you print on heat shrink?
To print on heat shrink cable markers, a thermal transfer printer is utilised. This method involves heating a ribbon to print directly onto the markers, providing clear and durable text. It's an effective way to achieve precise identification on wires for electrical and engineering tasks.
What is the best heat source for heat shrink?
The optimal heat source for heat shrink labels for cables is a heat gun, offering controlled and even heat distribution. This ensures the heat shrink cable label shrinks uniformly without damage, resulting in a secure and professional finish, suitable for a wide range of applications.
What are what are CCUV Clear Protective Sleeves used for?
CCUV clear protective sleeves, like the TMS-CCUV sleeves, are designed for UV protection and cable identification markers. They offer exceptional clarity and are used for protecting and labelling cables, ensuring durability and visibility.
